The Airways Division of U.S. Lighthouse Service

I discovered the Airways Division of the Lighthouse Bureau quite by accident, while I was indexing Lighthouse Service Bulletins for research purposes. The idea that the Lighthouse Bureau had supervised civil aviation in its very early days astounded me, and so I looked for further records of that 1926-1932 period. I used what I found to write a two-part article published in 2008 in The Keepers' Log, the quarterly journal of the U.S. Lighthouse Society. The two articles are available below as PDF files.
Having transcribed all the documentation that I collected from the National Archives and from other sources, I want to share it with interested readers. It's available below as a PDF file.
